There have been many Dj competitions in the past number of years but there is one that has succeeded in finding some of the world’s hottest Dj talent consistently since its inception in 2003. The Corona Movida meaning “cutting edge” is exactly that, a cutting edge Dj search that takes place in the global community with Djs from Iran to Mexico and Finland to Morocco taking part.
Each year the Corona machine travels the world scouting for talent and this year will be no different although as usual the stakes and prizes are higher than ever. This is not an amateur competition and professional Dj’s who are willing to put their profile and egos to the test have also been entering but beware this is not for the faint hearted.
In Ireland the story is the same as we have had an amazing run of success stories with Corona Movida. Last year entrant Rob Conway son of well known radio personality Bob Conway came second in the world, the previous year Dj Tuki form Rathfarnam in Dublin took the world championship title home to Ireland and also bagged himself a Suzuki jeep and scooter for his troubles. In total Ireland has been in the top three for as many years. We have had more consistent success than any other country in the world.
Corona Movida has evolved musically with the years as the original remit was to find the worlds best funky house djs. The music is now as diverse as the people playing it. Electro, Breaks, house a bit of techno and even a tad of hip hop has been heard bursting out of the many bars and clubs hosting the Corona Movida events in recent years. Add to this the fact that Corona have teamed up with the worlds leading club brand Pacha from Ibiza and now a major fixture in the world’s hottest cities and you can see how much the competition is moving forward to simply continue to be the best. Pacha are offering the winning dj a Pacha residency for five events and one of the Pacha residents TBA will be playing at The Irish Final in Oct in dandelion all details on that and on the prizes, the new rules and the competition will be announced at Dandelion St Stephens Green on Fri aug 22nd between 6pm and 11pm. Djs on the night will be Fm104s Al Gibbs, Party Marty and Steve O.
